The library is like the endless sea of information found in a variety of Media. I say media, because, I would like to include CD’s, DVD’s, magazines, movies, internet, educational-games, newspapers, projectors, tapes and photographs in the list with books. There are many more media items that are found in the library, which assist us in our findings.
The library is somewhere I frequently go to boost my self-confidence. I feel great after being adorned with the knowledge of wealth with just one book. It can be on any genre from Science, History, Architecture, Love, Health, Fiction, Non-Fiction and et cetera.
The library- (the ones in Singapore and Melbourne), have never failed to disappoint me in my search. With effort and interest, I would head down to the library weeks prior to the handing in of my assignment (during my university days) and find a nice cosy spot. The nice cosy spot was an encouragement element to brainstorm. I would be aroused by the numerous books around me and try to generate and get my ideas flowing. Slowly, I would start picking out the books I need and after collecting over an impressive thirty to forty books, I would glide down again in my cosy spot and sink into my sources.
Many of you don’t know the power of the library. It holds more value than your intelligent talks. In a library, you can find anything you want. Let’s assume you are in the polytechnic or even college. You will have loads of assignments to complete and heaps of research to do.
The library is the only all-encompassing place you will get your answers. You will find the books related to your topic and you can add more depth to your assignments with references from past research papers. If you need the internet, all you have to do is just swipe your card. (You need a membership card to access most library facilities.) And if you want the latest news, or if you are there to edit news articles for your journalism project, then the newspapers are at your service. There are magazines you can read for free and not waste money on.
In the library, you might also find a lot of posted information and announcements. A friend of mine once, told me, how he made it big with his band. He wanted to borrow a book for his assignment and decided to spend more time in the library just browsing around. He walked towards the announcement board section and saw a poster on a band competition and how some drummers were looking to form a team. This competition was not part off his college but the community he lived in had organized and advertised in the library- he took it from there.
You should make it a point to use the library facilities in your school more often. The books you borrow don’t necessarily need to be educational- they could be novels too. There are some students who have free lessons in between other lessons and I always encourage them to chill in the library. It doesn’t matter what you touch or pick up in the library- you are automatically in a learning process. Whatever little you learn from the library, will be useful someday or another.
If you find the resources inadequate in your school library, don’t fret and head down to the rich National Library of Singapore. This library has been revamped and now holds public events and services that will leave you coming back for more. The National Library has programmes planned for the young, old, culture inquisitive and assignment loaded students like you!
