With Singapore working towards attaining the global education label, private schools too are being recognised for their level of performance through the SQC. This award is also programmed to assist these schools to accomplish world-class standards of business excellence based on the Singapore Quality Award (SQA) framework.
Businesses, including the private schools are awarded for the SQC based on seven criteria’s:
Leadership - a focus on top management commitment and personal involvement in setting clear directions and visible goals, creating and sustaining corporate values and systems, reviewing employee’s performance and development, and recognising their participation and achievements.
Planning- focus on the organisations planning process and how key requirements are integrated into the organisations plans.
Information- focus on the management, analysis and use of data and information to improve and support decision-making at all levels of the organisation.
People- focus on how the organisation taps the full potential of the workforce, emphasising on workforce training and career development, health and satisfaction, and employee participation and recognition.
Results- focus on the organisations performance and improvements in areas of importance to the organisation. It also examines performance levels relative to those of competitors and/or benchmarks
Processes - focus on the key processes the organisations uses to pursue its objectives and goals, and create value for customers.
Customers- which focuses on how the organisation determines customer and market requirements, enhances relationship with its customers and determines and improves customer satisfaction.
Once the SQC is obtained, it can be used on all collaterals to promote the mark of excellence which shows that the business excels in all the key areas of the business.
The SQC is not only an award for businesses but also a guideline for students and parents who wish to take up education paths in Singapore. When a school is awarded with SQC, it gains a reputation of being more authentic, quality wise. Its reliability in the business sense is appreciated and the award allows expression of its high standard.
Private Education Organisation’s that qualify for SQC-PEO also enjoy the following privileges:
a) ‘Green lane’ processing of Student’s Pass applications, including reduced processing time, and waiver of security deposits for their international students.
b) Overseas promotional support from International Enterprise Singapore (in facilitating overseas missions and joint ventures) and Singapore Tourism Board (in attracting international students).

In addition to the reduced application processing time students who cancel their student visa upon completion of their studies are now given 1 month to stay in Singapore, instead of the 2 weeks. They can use this time to settle their bond matters and clear up any pending matters making things a tab bit more convenient.
The SQC awarded schools are re-assessed every 3 years based on thorough screening of school information, staff, curriculum, results, study methods, student life, teachers and their qualifications et cetera. |
